FRAGMENTARY ORDER 01 (Cordon and Search - Operation ANAR SWEEP)

References: Map Sheet

Time Zone: Eastern.

1. SITUATION

  • Enemy Forces: S-2 estimates a platoon-sized element of insurgents operating as "sleepers" within the village of Anar. Suspected combatants are hiding within the local populace. At least three (3) weapons caches are confirmed/suspected in the AO.
  • Friendly Forces: 1-183rd Infantry conducting Air Assault.
  • Attachments/Detachments: Combat Engineers

2. MISSION

1-183rd Infantry conducts a Cordon and Search of the village of Anar starting at H-Hour to neutralize enemy caches and identify insurgent personnel.

3. EXECUTION

Concept of Operations

This is a dismounted air assault operation. The unit will insert via rotary-wing at LZ Gold, establish a cordon, and execute a deliberate building-by-building search. No ground vehicles are authorized for this mission.

  • Infiltration: Heli-assault into Grid 074047.
  • Search Pattern: Clear buildings starting from the South, moving North-West along the Alternate Supply Route (ASR), through Anar proper, and concluding in the Northeast sector.
  • Cache Destruction: COMMANDER’S INTENT: Any caches discovered are to be blown in place (BIP) immediately using authorized explosive charges. This mandate stands regardless of proximity to civilian structures.
  • Exfiltration: Extract via Grid 070061 upon completion of clearing operations.

Tasks to Maneuver Units

  • 1st Squad & Combat Engineers (Search): Lead clearing element. Conduct building-by-building search. Execute BIP of all found caches.
  • 2nd & 4th Squads (Cordon): Establish outer/inner cordon to prevent insurgent escape into the surrounding terrain.
  • 211th CAB: Conduct ISR, provide CAS as needed, and provide troop transport.

Coordinating Instructions

  • Rules of Engagement (ROE): Hostile Intent/Hostile Act applies. Use caution with non-combatants, but cache destruction takes precedence over structural preservation.
  • Explosives: All squads are authorized and required to carry standard demolition kits (C4/Det cord).

4. SUSTAINMENT

  • Logistics: Individual Ruck loads. No vehicle resupply.
  • Medical: Casualty Collection Point (CCP) to be established at the southern ASR entrance. Medevac via air only.

5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL

  • Command: Company HQ located with Main CP.
  • Signal: * Primary: Tactical Satellite / FM Radio.
  • Pace: FM - SAT - Runner.
  • Succession of Command: Standard SOP.
