Field Training Exercise (FTX) is a structured, scenario-based operation event designed to evaluate and improve unit readiness. It tests mission planning, leadership, communications, tactics, and sustainment through progressive objectives, unexpected injects, and limited information. An FTX typically includes rehearsals, execution under stress, casualty and resupply problems, and an after-action review to capture lessons learned. Participants are assessed on teamwork, discipline, decision-making, and the ability to adapt while maintaining control of the mission.

Operation BRONZE SPEAR is a coalition-led security and disruption campaign in Kohistan-e Darbat Province, staged from FOB McBride, focused on deterring enemy massing, keeping the northern MSR/river corridor viable, and degrading AFITH/PU networks (IED cells, facilitators, propaganda, and intimidation). The operation supports the Government of Khostara’s limited forces by pairing targeted, intelligence-driven strikes with selective route clearance and sustainment support, aiming to stabilize key nodes without overextending into sustained “clear and hold” fighting.
